#21 Slow down in town

One of my pet gripes is inner city speeders, leading to this week's tip: Slow down in town

Dodgy Inner City Speeders - or as I like to call them, DICS ;-) put themselves and others at great risk.

Here's why:

If you're SCANNING the road correctly there's simply no way a competent driver can speed through built up areas safely.

Your eyes can't move fast enough to take in all of the potential hazards – never mind also having TIME to react. There won't be any time at all to stop if an unlucky person or pet crosses your path.

In towns and cities there's also not much SPACE to react. Who knows where you could end up - on a footpath, around a lamp post, or even in a shop window...?

Even at night when it might seem like you have the road to yourself, you can't GUARANTEE someone won't come out of a side street or that you'll even see in your headlights that cyclist or pedestrian crossing in front of you.

(By the way, I'm not condoning OUT of town speeding! I just find inner city speeding especially dodgy, given the number of people in a small area out doing their thing - driving, walking, running or cycling on or near busy streets.)

Buckle up, buttercups! And slow down in town :-)
